An incomplete copper alloy probable mount of unknown exact date, though could fall between the Roman and Post Medieval periods (c. AD 43-1900). The mount is in the form of a stylised fish with forked tail and head pointing upwards and the body curved. A curled fin extends from the head towards the tail and the possible remains of a second fin can be seen on the opposite side of the head. Some detail on the face and body of the fish remains though it is very worn.
The style of the object is very similar to Roman depictions of dolphin. However, there is currently still a degree of debate over the dating and functionality of these items and dating has varied from Roman through to the Georgian period (c. AD 43 - c. AD 1900). Similar examples recorded on the PAS database in both copper alloy and lead alloy include: KENT-5A2D86; SWYOR-4D4182; LVPL-F8C003; HESH-407E14; and SF9968.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 15.89mm in length, 31.55mm in width, 4.75mm in thickness and 5.15g in weight.
