An incomplete cast copper-alloy Medieval double looped or 'spectacle' buckle dating c. AD1350-1650.
Description: The buckle consists of two ovoid loops. The loops are undecorated, but lightly bevelled with a flat back, this leaves the frame roughly triangular in cross-section. The loops have moderate upper and lower apex. On the outer edge of one loop, there is a point of rust stain, possibly from the now missing pin. The strap bar is broken near the middle. The buckle is patianted mid green-turquoise and is in good condition.
Measurements: 22.59mm length, 19.78mm wide, 2.20mm thick and Weight: 2.66g.
Discussion: This form of buckle is a common find reported to the PAS and Whitehead (2003) illustrates a vast array of similar buckles (page 53, No.294), which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD
