Object type certainty: Certain

An incomplete copper alloy Roman disc brooch with peripheral lugs, dating from the 2nd century AD. The brooch is circular in shape, with a central rounded projection with a narrow neck. Surrounding this is a round raised disc. There is a possible raised pellet beside one edge of the disc, however this may be corrosion. The edge of the disc is raised and is a solid border. Projecting out from the edge are four rounded lugs, two of which are now missing. On the reverse the central projection comes through from the other side. Either side of this is the remains on the hinge and the catchplate, these are worn and broken. The pin is now missing. The brooch has a dark green patina.

The brooch measures 25.7mm in length, 21.44mm in width, 6.6mm in thickness, and weighs 3.24g.

A similar brooch can be seen in Hattatt 2000, page 345, number 533.
