A base silver penny of Alfred (the Great) dating c. 871-875. First coinage, 'lunette' type, moneyer Biarnmod at uncertain southern mint. North 627 (lunettes broken at angles). A small piece of the flan has broken away in old damage. This coin has been recorded on the EMC as 2018.0413.
