A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy trade weight (c. 1850).

This weight is circular in plan and the sides flare from the base to a flat rim. The front face is dished and has stamped marks:

Crown above C*S; 'O' below C*S; '2' and unclear mark.

The outer part of the underside is flat and the centre is concave and uneven. A small hole penetrating the rim may be a casting flaw.

The weight is generally reddish overall.

Diameter: 36.0mm; thickness: 8.6mm; maximum width of rim: 3.7mm. Weight: 47.57g. (1.6780 ounces).

Compare with other trade weights stamped: C*S: HAMP-5EE78D; HAMP-D5E8C1; IOW-003B73; IOW-4E8C55; IOW-CF74DE and SUR-C92CAF.

C*S is a verification mark for Hampshire used about 1850.
