A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (1 - 1650 AD), most probably later medieval (1150-1600AD). The spindle whorl is broadly circular in plan and has an irregular bi-convex cross section. The central hole is circular and has been cast / set off centre; it measures 8.9mm. The upper and lower surfaces are undecorated and the whorl has a mid grey colour. Spindle whorls are used for a long period of time and as such are very difficult to date precisely without other evidence (such as pottery).
The whorl measures 28.0mm diameter, is 12.2mm thick and weighs 17.21 grams
