A copper alloy coin weight of probable 15th century - late medieval date (1412-1464). The coin weight was probably used to weigh a full gold noble. It is circular in plan having been abraded in the ploughsoil . The front face of the weight has a single mast ship with a single lis (probably) to the left of the mast and a lion passant to the right. There are no marks on the hull. The reverse is plain and undecorated. The edges of the flan are angular suggesting it had been trimmed to weight during use. The weight is a mid green colour with an even well preserved patina which is laminating at the edges. The weight of the coin weights mass is irregular - a Noble has two separate weights depending on when it was made; between 1351-1412 it should weigh 120 grains and a half Noble 60 grains whilst between 1412-1464 it should be 108 or 54 grains respectively. This example weighs 69.4 grains and is likely to have lost weight through metal erosion and leaching - therefore it is most likely to have been made between 1412-64

The coin weight measures 16.4mm length, 16.6mm width, 4.0mm thick and weighs 4.50 grams (69.4 grains).
