A very small fragment of cast lead alloy, most probably from the base of a pilgrims ampulla of medieval date (AD 1200-1450). The fragment is irregular in plan and profile. It comprises a small section of the upper face and lower curved edge of the artefact. The face is decorated with curvilinear ribs whose design extends onto the external edge and represents the shell of St James - Patron Saint of Pilgrims. The opposite face is lost. The artefact is a mid-white colour with an abraded and corroded surface patina. A direct parallel has not been found due to the small size of the piece and therefore the identification should be considered tentative.

The artefact measures 21.9mm long, 18.0mm wide, 7.2mm thick across the body; it weighs 6.88 grams.
