A silver voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272), Long cross coinage (1247-1272), Class Va (1250-1256), moneyer Gilbert, mint of Canterbury. The obverse has the portrait of the king facing with a sceptre in his right hand, which restricts the coin to Classes IV - VII. The legend reads hENRICVS REX III, where REX comes before the hand holding the sceptre and the legend begins at 10 o'clock, while the letter R has a pellet foot, the letter X has one straight stroke and one sinuous stroke and the A on the reverse is double-barred. The two curls at either side of the head are stylised, all of which narrows the class down to Class Va.
