A complete post medieval copper alloy strap or belt fitting, dating to 1550-1700. The fitting is S shaped, both ends are decorated with a bird or swan's head. The head consists of an incised oval eye and raised moulded brow each side, with a rounded triangular beak. Moulded crescents run down the neck of the bird to represent feathers, these are worn. In the centre of the fitting there is a raised moulded double collar running around the circumference of the fitting. On either side of this is a trefoil projection, most likely representing the wings. This decoration is repeated on the other side. The fitting is a dark brown colour. It measures 43.4mm in length, 20.2mm in width, and 5.7mm at maximum thickness. It weighs 18.30g.
Similar belt hooks can be seen in Bailey 1997, 20-21.
