A complete early medival copper alloy strap end, dating to c. AD 740-1100. The strap end is split end, and is triangular shaped narrowing towards the terminal end. At the wider splt end there is a central circular rivet holding the two sheets together. This edge is worn and broken, with one corner missing and the other folded over on the front sheet. On the other sheet one corner is missing. The strap end narrows to a zoomorphic terminal, which has a rounded snout. Above this are two oval hollows representing eyes, and two raised triangular ears. The strap end is very worn, and no other decoration remains. The strap end has a red brown patina, with patches of orange yellow sitting on the surface. It measures 28.6mm in length, 12.2mm at maximum width, 5.5mm at maximum thickness, and weighs 2.79g.
