A cuboid, lead artefact, possibly a weight, of unknown date, probably Early Medieval to Post Medieval, AD 800 - 1800. It is a sub-cuboid solid shape. One lone face is decorated with an incised star of four crossing lines. The two long faces adjacent to the decorated one has a slight circular bump in the centre, and may possibly indicate where there was once a loop attached, passing through the centre. The central hole is blocked with earth. The final long face is rough and slightly convex. Both ends are very smooth and slightly hollow. It is 21.1mm long, 14.3mm wide and 14.1mm thick. It weighs 25g. This mass is broadly similar to Viking ounces (ore) and to a modern ounce, or to an ounce in the Mercantile or Avoirdupois systems. For this reason a board date range and an object type of weight have been suggested. The lead has a smooth brown patina.
