Three Roman grog-tempered ceramic vessel sherds, probably dating to c. AD 200-410. The sherds include a single rim sherd and two body sherds, whilst there is some variation between the individual sherds, all appear to be of the same coarse, grog-tempered fabric. This is a fine grained and fairly homogenous clay, micaeous, and dominated by large, angular, poorly sorted grog, iron stone and probably limestone inclusions, < c. 2.5mm. The rim sherd is from a small jar with a constricted neck and beaded rim. The sherd has a grey-brown reduced core and pinkish-orange oxidised surface, the area around the rim and the internal surface appear to have been wiped or burnished, and are also reduced, fired black. None of the sherds exhibit any further decoration or surface treatment.
Rim sherd weight: 54.3g.
Total weight: 83.5g.
