A complete lead spindle whorl of unknown date. The spindle whorl is biconvex and sub-circular in shape. The spindle whorl is undecorated.There is a central, uneven circular hole with a diameter of 6.5mm. The whorl is a blotched colour of pale brown and grey with a cream patina.
Regarding the dating of spindle whorls, Helen Geake of the British Museum writes: "Dating of lead whorls is difficult. The drop spindle with which they were used continued in use until the end of the medieval period.of unknown date. It is also difficult to establish the function of the whorl as is could also be a weight.
