An incomplete Polden Hill type brooch dating to the Roman period (C. AD 75-175). The head of the brooch, complete with wings is semi-cylindrical with closed, flat, end caps .It is 8mm thick. The axis bar, spring and pin are lost. The top of the head has the remains of the suspension loop for the spring and there is a worn rib decoration . The bow is bent back towards the head in antiquity giving the brooch a compressed length of 23mm. The bow tapers from a width of 9mm at the head to 2mm at the foot and a diameter of 3mm for most of its length The catch plate is absent. The patina is light green.
