Fragment of an Early Medieval copper brazed iron bell. The fragment comprises part of the crown and shoulder of the bell, and also of the handle. The bell appears to be made of iron sheet brazed with copper. The bell is irregularly broken around the body. The crown is sub-rectangular in plan and flares to the breaks on all sides. The handle loop is semi-circular and is covered with light-brown concretion. This concretion also covers one side of the bell, and the interior too. The concretion changes to a dull purple-brown colour towards the break, where it also comprises flecks of charcoal. The concretion might be indicative of the manufacturing process.
