A complete copper-alloy book clasp dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1500-1700). The clasp consists of part of the narrow hook at one end that extends to the main rectangular plate and following this, a flared serrated edge at the other end. The main rectangular plate is bent at an angle of approximately 80 degrees and damaged on one edge towards the serrated terminal. The surface of the main rectangular plate is decorated at its centre with two concentric circulates with a circular perforation in the middle, and towards the flared terminal, two sets of three recessed lines that expand slightly, terminating with two conjoined concentric circles with circular perforations (rivet holes) in the centre of them. The underside of the plate is plain. The object measures 40mm in length, 17mm wide, 1mm thick and weighs 8.9 grams.
