A large cast copper alloy Roman bow brooch, in the style of the Colchester derivative, Polden Hill group c.75-175 AD. The brooch has semi-cylindrical cross bar with perforated end caps, the axis bar is intact with a spring of 15 turns, held by the chord through the hole in the crest. The pin is missing. The crossbar is decorated with four equally spaced circumferential bands of a grove and dots, with an additional band at the head, either side of the bow/wing junction. The bow, with a maximum diameter of 8.3mm, has a modest central crest/rib, extending half way down its length, with a small knop at its foot. The catch plate is complete in situ, it has two curvy linear cut slots in the main body of the plate.
The surface has a dark green mottled patina.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
