A heavily abraded copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Gordian III (AD 238-244), dating to the period AD 241-244 (Reece period 12). Probably IOVI STATOR, S C or IOVI STATORI, S C reverse type, depicting Jupiter standing front, head right, holding long sceptre and thunderbolt. Mint of Rome. Cf. RIC IV.3, p. 48, nos. 298a, 299a passim. This is probably a light sestertius rather than an as, which has a much smaller module.
