An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 750-950. The strap end is of Thomas' Class A, probably Type 1, although the decoration has been highly abraded, obscuring many of the details. The strap end is sub-rectangular in shape with the longer edges tapering towards one another. It is made from a single sheet of metal folded widthways. The edges are joined for the majority of its length before splitting into a front and back plate at the attachment end. One rivet remains in each corner of the attachment end and a broken hole is present in the centre at the very edge of the attachment end, possibly suggesting a third rivet which has now been lost. The front plate is decorated with two panels of geometric incised decoration. The upper panel is formed of approximately six lines radiating from a central point in a squared spiral. Thomas' Class A, Type 1 strap ends typically have Trewhiddle style animal imagery, although this cannot be clearly interpreted on this object due to its poor condition. The lower panel is decorated with less regular lines which spiral and intersect with one another. The two decorative panels are separated by a straight incised line. The strap end terminates in a blunt break. The reverse is undecorated.

The metal is red in colour with green corrosion product adhering to the grooves of the incised decoration. Extensive cleaning may have removed the patina leaving the object in a very fragile condition. This treatment has also obscured some of the decorative elements. The strap end is 38.2mm in length, 17.4mm in width, 3.6mm thick, and weighs 6.3g.

Parallels are illustrated and discussed in Thomas (FRG32) pp.2-3. Similar objects are recorded on the database as YORYM-7821B5, YORYM-D0B536, BH-EA8C56.
