Early medieval copper alloy strap end, c. 39mm long and 8mm wide, with a weight of 1.48g.

The object is sub rectangular in form and rectangular in cross section. It has a slightly damaged upper edge, which should be straight. Here it has a rectangular recessed 'back' plate, c 8 x 6mm, which would have had a correspoding one at the front to hold the strap. Below this point the object has bowed sides and is decorated for two thirds of its length with an interlace design in a raised linear border (the upper edge is missing) . Below this are two rectangular incised borders housing a crescent shaped recess in the top half, suggesting ears. The remaining part of the strap end narrows to a raised point which has two incised cehvrons across its centre. The object is a 'Trewiddle' style strap end, Thomas Class A, Type 1
