COIN WEIGHT

Unique ID: DENO-42BC70

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper alloy coin weight of post-medieval date (c AD 1750 -1780) It is circular, both faces show corrosion and have no discernable inscription except an indistinct stamp near the edge of one face, this could be a C or a G. From the size and weight of the object it is possible that it is from a 'long set' for weighing Portuguese Moidore and Johannes coins. The object's current weight of 7.2 g approximates the weight of the quarter Johannes, worth 9 shillings. (Biggs 1992, table 1)

Diameter 19.3 mm, thickness 3.3 mm
