A complete cast copper-alloy harness fitting or mount, probably dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1100-1400). The upper plate of the mount is hollow and shield-shaped with tapering edges. The lower plate is crescent shaped with four equally spaced circular knops projecting from the edges. The shield-shaped plate is decorated with three equally spaced horizontal lines and an unclear central globular motif. The lower plate is decorated with a series of lines emanating from beneath the shield to the edge of the plate. There are surviving patches of gilding on both plates. On the underside, a pointed square sectioned attachment lug projects from the centre of the shield-shaped plate. The reverse of the object is otherwise undecorated. The object measures 28mm in length and a maximum of 25mm in width and 1.5mm thick. The attachment lug is 8mm long and a maximum of 3.5mm thick. The object weighs 6.53 grams.
