A somewhat worn copper-alloy farthing token issued by John Seaman of Stanton, Suffolk, dating c. 1648-1674. Unlisted in Williamson, Dickinson 306, Norweb 4464.
Obverse: talbot (hunting dog) left, *IOHN.SEAMAN**
Reverse: initials I S A in triangle within pelleted inner border, IN. STANTON
Farthing trade tokens were first issued in 1648 as a response to the lack of small change, with halfpenny tokens following in 1656. They were suppressed by Royal Authority in 1674.
