An incomplete and corroded copper-alloy Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) harness bit link (c. 1000-c. 1000).

Part of a knopped loop, part of the bar and a central boss survive. The boss has a knop at each side.

This fitting is convex at the front. At the rear the boss is concave and the loop is bevelled internally.

The fitting is green and has active corrosion overall.

Length: 34.0mm; width: 21.4mm; thickness: 10.0mm. Weight: 8.14g.

These links are discussed and illustrated by Williams (2007: 4, fig. 5) who identifies them as Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) bit links. They appear to have been attached to the ends of the iron bits, adjacent to the cheek piece, and to which reins were secured.
