An incomplete Medieval zoomorphic mount or stud (c. 1350-c. 1500).

This mount is convex at the front and largely concave at the rear.

The stylised design is probably intended to represent a hedgehog.

The front is cross-hatched and at one end there is a blunt snout. The rear face has the remains of a spike and is partially filled with copper-alloy corrosion.

The mount has a brown patina.

Length: 15.0mm; width: 10.7mm; thickness: 5.0mm. Weight: 1.70g.

Comparable mounts from Meols, Merseyside have been published (Griffiths et al. 2007: 119, Pl. 20, refs: 1129, 1130, 1131, 1135, 1138 and 1139).
