A complete cast copper-alloy thimble dating to the late Medieval or early Post-Medieval period, c. 1450-1550. It has a circular basal plan and is domed, demonstrating a pointed tonsured crown. Below this, the walls of the thimble are decorated with c. 13 courses of small hand-stamped dimples, excepting a plain band demarcated by a transverse groove at its base. Preserved in good condition with an even greenish patina, it stands 14.28mm high, c. 16.68mm in diameter at its base, and c. 1.45mm thick at the midpoint of the walls. It weighs 3.51g.
A practically identical thimble is recorded on the PAS database as DUR-EC88D2, except that this example does not have a hole in the apex of the crown.
