A fragment of a large Roman enameled copper alloy brooch, 38.5mm in length and probably of trumpet derived type. The fragment consists of the foot and part of the bow, with a portion of the catchplate on the reverse. The front is decorated with concentric moulded circles in a roundel on the bow, with a flaring fantail type foot decorated with a pair of moulded spirals around a cup-shaped form. There are extensive traces of enamal between the deeply moulded ridges of the decoration and a white metal coating to their top edges. The reverse is plain, with the stub of a footplate and a single transverse ridge on the other end next to the break in the bow. Circa 1st-2nd century AD.

Notes:

Decoration and form similar to Hattatt (2000), p330, number 1537.
