Early medieval? copper alloy brooch or mount, 23mm long, 22mm wide and 1mm thick with a weight of 1.92g.
The object is sub rectangular in form and cross section and is incomplete. It appears it would have been circularoriginally and has a central circular hole, 2-3mm in diameter in its centre. Around this is a plain raiosed central cross motif and in each 'quarter' there is a raised triangular motif sitting in the part nearest the cross. This then becomes a short raised line before bifurcating and forming a swirl to each side. The upper edge (as shown) is the only intact edge and has a solid raised border. At the end of the cross arm it has a semi-circular recess in its edge. The decoration suggests it may be some form of nummular brooch or perhaps it is a decorative mount? Date wise it is likely to be late early medieval to high medieval.
