SEAL MATRIX

Unique ID: GLO-0757C0

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Copper alloy circular shaped seal matrix. The central motif depicts a shield the top quarter is identified by a band that runs, contained within are three circular objects, encrusted dirt and corrosion makes further identification of these items impossible. There lower three quarters of the shield is decorated by six ermines arranged over three lines of 3/2/1, this is all contained within a circular border which is in turn surrounded by the inscription. The edge of the matrix is heavily damaged resulting in the loss of about 40% of the inscription; the remainder is worm an encrusted meaning that many of the letters are difficult to read. This item has also been coated in wax to protect it but this has resulted in dirt and corrosion becoming trapped in the recessed areas making its reading more difficult the remaining elements of the inscription are []O(A)IS(A)I[].

The reverse is undecorated except to a transverse ridge that runs from top to bottom at the top and has a truncated loop at one end.
