A complete cast copper-alloy strap loop dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. It is sub-trapezoidal in plan, consisting a rectangular-sectioned frame with a projecting rectangular 'tab' extending from its back edge. A small rectangular washer is jammed around the tip of the latter, held in place by corrosion products. Preserved in good condition with an even greenish patina, it measures 14.91mm in length, 11.66mm wide by 2.51mm thick at its midpoint, and weighs 1.25g.
Strap loops were used during the medieval period as a method of holding down loose parts of straps. See Egan and Pritchard, nos. 1236 and 1239. Compare also WAW-7459AB on the PAS database.
