Unique ID: SOM-03BBC8

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Late Medieval penny of an uncertain ruler dating to AD 1377 to 1485. Possibly a local die, mint of York. The coin has been clipped to the inner circle and is pierced at 12 o'clock on the obverse with a large hole made near the edge and not adjacent to a cross end on the reverse.

Due to the lack of other modifications, such as gilding, it is not clear that piercing alone has removed it circulating as coinage, which was often judged by weight due to heavy clipping in this period. Therefore it has been rcorded as a coin, not as an object, which might have been potential Treasure.
