Copper alloy possible strap fitting fragment. A cast D-section oval loop, wider at one end and diminishing in its width from 9.7mm to 6.4mm towards its other end, where it is broken. A complete object incorporating a loop of this form was recently recorded from Burton upon Stather, North Lincolnshire (NLM-844D5E), and featured a smaller sub-rectangular loop at right angles to the larger loop of graduated width. In its appearance this resembled a miniature stirrup, though serving a different function, albeit perhaps still associated with horse-gear. A carbine sling might require such a fitting. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850.
