A copper alloy T-shaped key dating to the Roman or Early Medieval period. It consists of a central stem with a flat, oval attachment loop at the upper end and a T-shaped or W-shaped terminal at the lower end, formed from two prongs which extend from the central stem at a right angle before turning another rounded right angle before ending in squared-off ends. The central stem is flat at the loop end and expands in width slightly before tapering back in towards the mid point. It then becomes circular-sectioned until terminating with the two prongs.
The metal is worn and dark brown in colour. The key is 102.8 mm long, 23.5 mm wide, and 4.7 mm thick. It weighs 19.6 g.
