A complete lead spindle whorl of unknown exact date (c. AD 43-1700). The object is roughly conical in shape with a flat base and a circular perforation truncating the centre of the object. The whorl is plain and undecorated with a white patina.
Plain lead spindle whorls were in use from the Roman period to the present day, therefore without any contextual information it is difficult to apply an exact date. A large number of this type of spindle whorl have been recorded on the PAS database dated from the Roman to Post Medieval periods. Such examples include: DENO-D0AED4; WMID-32510A; and LANCUM-80986E.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 11.38mm in length, 24.62mm in diameter and 31.42g in weight.
