Two complete and two incomplete musket or carbine shots from the Post Medieval period (AD1600-1800).
The shots are as described below:
i) A complete lead ball with a faint casting mark and a small part of the surface missing. Light grey patina all over.Weight 31.7g, diameter 16.81mm. For use in a musket.
ii) A complete lead ball with one surface almost flat, some scratches around the surface.Overall light grey patina. For use in a musket. Weight 31.5g, diameter 18.28mm.
iii) A complete lead shot with a flat base and conical apex; several scratches on the surface. There is a light grey patina all over. For use in a carbine. Weight 15.7g, diameter 15.55mm
iv) A complete lead shot with a flat base and a mis-shapen upper surface. There are deep irregular facets on the upper surface suggesting it was fired and struck an object. A light grey or light brown patina all over. For use in a carbine.
The suggested date of all four objects is from 1600-1800 but they all virtually comply with the weights formulated as a table for weapons used during the Napoleonic Wars period. Weight 14.8g, diameter 14.41mm.
