A complete lead or lead alloy weight or spindle whorl of unknown date (c. AD 43-1900). The weight is sub-spherical with flattened ends where the large central perforation truncates the ball. The inside walls of the hole are straight. Other weights of this shape have been suggested to be net or line weights from fishing as well as possible spindle whorls. The well developed patina suggests that the weight has some age, but it is not possible to suggest the exact period as such weights were in use from the Roman to the Modern period.
