A copper-alloy hook of likely post-medieval date, possibly part of a swivel hook.
The hook is sub-square in section aside from the bulbous base which is sub-oval. The bulbous base of the hook has been truncated. The shaft, extending from the bulb, gradually tapers into a curve to form the hook, terminating at a point. This point may originally have extended further.
The hook is possibly part of a swivel hook, however due to the incomplete nature of the find it is not possible to conclusively say.
Swivel hooks were used for a wide variety of purposes to hold a variety of items including, cooking pots, purses and harnesses; see PAS database, PUBLIC-C87BB1, YORYM-6B4CE3, and PUBLIC-46AE14.
