Copper-alloy double-loop trapezoidal buckle of early post-medieval date (c. 1620 - 1680 AD), complete with copper-alloy pin. The buckle has two trapezoidal loops which widen from a central pin bar. The outer edges at each end terminate in a pointed lip with a transverse pin notch on the upper face of each at the widest point. The sides of each loop extend beyond the frame, widening to a decorative knop. The central pin bar is further embellished at each end by a decorative knop. There is a copper-alloy pin curled around the pin bar at one end; this is rectangular in section and narrows considerably to a sharp point. The object is dark brown in colour with slight patches of green copper corrosion. The buckle is 35.94mm in length, 22.00mm in width and 2.70mm in thickness. It weighs 6.51g.
Similar examples can be seen in Whitehead (2016) Buckles 1250 - 1800, pp. 83-4, esp. nos. 520 and 523-5. It is from these that the date range posited for this example has been taken.
