An incomplete copper-alloy umbonate disc brooch of Roman date, c.AD 100 - 250. The brooch is circular with a worn brake to one edge and two projections extending at opposite points. One projection houses a double lugged hinge for the pin to the reverse, the other, the catchplate. A short length of circular sectioned pin survives, the rest having been lost to a worn break.
The main body of the brooch is domed and is decorated with two concentric rings of triangular cells pointing towards a central ring and dot motif. Traces of red and blue glass enamel survives within some of the cells. The reverse is concave and undecorated.
A similar example is illustrated in Hattatt, p.350, fig.209, no.128.
