A lead and iron probable steelyard weight of probable Roman date, AD 43 - 410. It is a narrow cone of lead, truncated at the top with a flat end from which the stud of an iron attachment loop projects. The other end is rounded, with a central conical depression. The sides are slightly faceted, and there is a deep gouge, probably post depositional damage, but still patinated, on one face. The weight has a light grey patina. It is 39mm long, 23mm in diameter and is 110g. This mass is roughly equal to one third of a Roman pound (libra), though the missing iron loop would also add mass.
