Lead alloy object depicting a possible human face. The object is broken at the neck and is a possible mount or badge of some description of possible medieval date, c1300-1500AD, or a toy of later date.
The front of the object is moulded in three dimensions, but the reverse is flat and undecorated. The facial features are very crudely modelled but there appears to be a simple straight mouth, two hollows for the eyes and a distinctive squared nose. The hair is produced by narrow grooves giving the impression of the hair being swept back off the face. At the base of the chin are signs of an old break, suggesting that it may at one time attached to a larger artefact. The other edges are rounded and do not appear to be broken. The objects has a creamy white patina. It is possible that this object is part of a mount or secular badge or even a toy.
For a similar object see SWYOR-40F8E7 on the PAS database, however this particular object is much heavier.
