An incomplete copper alloy cross-guard (quillon) from a sword or possibly a dagger. The object is probably one side of the original guard, it is longitudinal and curved with an expanding rounded terminal creating a downward curving guard. At the opposing end is a crude break, the cross section is C-shaped, at the mid-point it has a sub-angular section, at the tip is has an oval section. It is flat on top with a groove part way along the underside (extending from the break) and tapers slightly to the rounded terminal. Edwin Wood suggests it is likely dating to c.1300-1500 but possibly may be from a later off-hand parrying dagger dating to c.15th-16th century.
