Cast lead palm guard, of post medieval date. This type of item was apparently used by leather workers to protect the palm when stitching. It is roughly tear drop shaped with a D-shaped cross section, and has a transverse groove bisecting a shallow depression on the flat side - presumably there to stop the needle slipping when in use. It weighs 49.0g and the maximum dimensions are 39.9mm long by 29.8wide and 7.9mm thick. Several similar items have been recorded on the database including KENT-6E794E, LVPL-610AAC, PUBLIC-D6959F etc.
Bailey (Detector Finds, 1995, p.64-65) dates these to c17th century or later
