A complete copper-alloy medieval (c.1250-1400AD) D-shaped buckle with narrowed offset strap bar.

Description: The buckle is small, with thin bars of which the strap bar is offset. At the opposite end of the frame the loop has a central groove flanked on each side by two smaller grooves and a protruding stub creating transverse ribbed decoration . The decoration wraps around the frame front to back. The buckle pin remains in place and is formed from a piece of sheet copper-alloy. The back of the buckle is flat with some evidence of filing/bevelling. The colour of the buckle is a dark grey-green.

Measurement: 12.5mm long (includin pin), 15mmm wide. 1mm thick and 1.47g in weight.

Discussion: This is a relatively common type of buckle which is dated by Egan & Pritchard,(1991, 77, fig 312,314) to c.12-14th century
