A copper alloy domed thimble dating to c.1400 - c.1500. It is very worn and squashed. Two closely fitting layers of copper alloy are visible, most noticeable where the outer layer is missing around the crown and at the base where the inner component has been squashed resulting in folds in the metal. The outer sleeve has few surviving pits but what survive are hand punched, the inner layer is plain. The outer wall is incomplete in sections revealing the inner. The thimble does not have any rim detail and now has a dark green patina. Thimbles of a similar construction can be found on this database including HAMP-511211 SWYOR-EB197 and SWYOR-6DE545.
