A wrought iron arrowhead of medieval date, AD.1200-1550. The object is formed of a round socket that makes up the majority of the object's length. The tip of the arrowhead has a diamond shaped cross section. There is a slight waist where the tip meets the socket, however, the maximum width of the tip does not exceed that of the socket. Jessop 1996 type M3
Arrowheads of this type are typically 'military' in nature though they would serve equally in hunting. They were produced rapidly and in their thousands particularly during the 15th and early 16th century. They are often termed 'short bodkins' or armour piercing, though this is not strictly true. Similar types of arrowhead are also found on crossbow bolts.
The arrowhead is a dark red brown colour, and measures 36.8mm in length, 12.5mm in width, and weighs 4.86g.
