An incomplete probable Handle of post-Medieval to Modern date (AD 1650-1850). The object is figurative and is solid, cast, with in integral shaft projecting from the underside of the bust. The shaft or tang is circular in section with the circular foot. The upper portion of the object depicts an individual in 17th Century style clothing, with long hair and wide brimmed hat with a lace collar around the neck. The object is likely a handle to a toasting fork, it is solid and depicts an individual not in clerical grabs, and is therefore not an apostle spoon. The solid casting of a bust with the lack of a flat reverse and a small circular foot is also unlike a pipe tamper however is similar stylistically to a pipe tamper (WMID-5E97D1) however its form is significantly different.

The metal has a dark brown, slightly pitted patina.

Length: 60.46mm, Width: 20.86mm, Thickness: 15.19mm, Diameter (shaft): 5.18mm, Weight: 39.4g.

The curator at the National Civil War Centre - Newark Museum said "This is interesting and could well be 17th century, not sure if it is British and can't be certain. The hat and collar are interesting, I would like to see it in person! It could be commonwealth or low country - I am sorry I can't be more precise. Not sure it is a cavalier! Could just as well be a Quaker." - Pers Comm.
