A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type.
The stem swells from an egg shaped knop at the distal end to a classic dolphin-back, marked at its zenith with a small convex oval stud. Four converging tracks of sunken beading, two of which circle the inside of the bar, proceed from the zenith down to curl around and under. the right side of the bars now broken.
iron oxide staining inside the hinge point may indicate the remains of the bar are still present within the hinge.
