The button is convex and shows signs of having been heavily polished during its use. The moulded design depicts three vertically stacked cannons with three bezants separated by stacks of cannon balls in a band above, all within a recessed shield-shaped field. The back is concave and has a stub of a now lost fixing lug.The shield displays the arms of the Board of Ordnance, which were granted in 1806 and confirmed in 1823.
